30 July 2025
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, 30 July 2025 – Today, the Head of the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in Turkmenistan, Ms. Selbi Hanova, met with young participants of the UNICEF Eco-Camp to discuss the recent Special Address on climate change delivered by the UN Secretary-General, titled “A Moment of Opportunity: Supercharging the Clean Energy Age.”
The youth watched the Secretary-General’s video message and engaged in a discussion on how individuals can contribute to protecting the planet. The statement highlighted that the world is at a critical and historic turning point - a chance to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
“Watching the UN Secretary-General’s message made me realize how urgent the climate crisis is - and that even small actions by youth can help create a cleaner future,” said Resul Tayjanov, a participant of the Eco-Camp.
The Secretary-General emphasized that despite current geopolitical and environmental challenges, a clean energy revolution is already underway. In 2024, global investment in clean energy reached $2 trillion, outpacing fossil fuel investment and proving that renewable energy is now more affordable and effective.
The youth expressed their commitment to promoting sustainable practices in their communities and supporting the shift to a cleaner, fairer, and safer energy future.
