On International Women’s Day, UNICEF in Turkmenistan acknowledges the remarkable achievements of girls in various spheres and their role in pandemic prevention
As the world enters the third year of the global pandemic, the need for girls’ empowerment obtains new importance as they continue to face gender injustice on different levels. On International Women’s Day, UNICEF talked to girls across Turkmenistan and asked them to share their stories, ways to their success, and how the global pandemic influenced their lives.
“On International Women’s Day, UNICEF Turkmenistan shares reflections on gender equality amid a global pandemic. We work with partners to ensure that every girl and woman in Turkmenistan enjoys her rights and fulfills potentials to build a more peaceful and prosperous future for us all”, says UNICEF Representative to Turkmenistan, Mohammad Fayyazi.
Today, 8 girls: young SDG Ambassador, graphic designer, nurse, professional basketball player, teacher, photographer, eco-activist, and journalist are coming together to celebrate this important date and act as an example of change to break the gender-based stereotypes, contribute to recovery from the consequences of pandemic and commit to empowering every girl, everywhere. UNICEF will work further to commit to a girl-focused recovery from global pandemic that helps create a fairer and more equal post-pandemic world for girls with access to education, health, and social protection as well as showcase the achievements of girls in making major steps for shaping of a brighter, more peaceful, and prosperous future for every child.
