UN and Turkmenistan Joint Expert Group Convenes to Advance SDG Financing

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan (July 12, 2024) – The 11th meeting of the Joint Expert Group of the UN and the Government of Turkmenistan on SDG Financing took place today at the UN House in Ashgabat, with participants from the UN Agencies and national partners. The meeting focused on analyzing SDG financing gaps and exploring innovative approaches to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The meeting began with welcoming remarks and Introduction to the Common Country Analysis (CCA), including SDG analysis focusing on targets, gaps, risks and progress towards Turkmenistan's national SDG commitments.

The meeting focused on analyzing SDG financing gaps, with experts from various UN agencies presenting their findings. They discussed proposed SDG indicators and target values for food systems and food security, the methodology for labeling Turkmenistan's state budget using the SDG Rapid Comprehensive Assessment, and shared UNCTAD's SDG costing results with a focus on Central Asia. The SDG Push analysis, including scenario modeling for SDG indicators, was also presented, and the meeting concluded with a Q&A session and closing remarks emphasizing collaborative efforts to bridge financing gaps and accelerate SDG progress in Turkmenistan.

The Joint Expert Group of the UN and the Government of Turkmenistan on SDG Financing serves as a platform for dialogue and collaboration to advance the implementation of the SDGs in Turkmenistan. The group brings together experts from various UN agencies, government ministries, and civil society organizations to discuss key issues related to SDG financing, including resource mobilization, budget allocation, and monitoring and evaluation.
