Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, January 28, 2025 – Access to accurate and timely health information is a critical element of an effective national health system and is necessary for rapid and informed decision-making. In 2024, a team of national and international experts, with support from the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, conducted a situational analysis and mapping of health data collection and reporting forms using specially designed WHO digital tool. To present the findings of the analysis, the World Health Organization Country Office (WHO CO) in Turkmenistan hosted an online meeting on January 28, 2025.
The analysis focused on existing healthcare statistical forms and proposed recommendations to eliminate duplication while establishing standards for data being collected and reported in these forms. It also examined ways to streamline business processes for collecting data related to statistical and epidemiological surveillance, and outlined steps for initiating the development of an integrated digital information system within Turkmenistan's healthcare sector.

“The study was conducted in an efficient and effective manner, and today we had the privilege of listening to presentations by experts who shared their valuable conclusions and recommendations. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan for their deep understanding of the importance and timeliness of this analysis, as well as their comprehensive support in its implementation,” said Dr. Egor Zaitsev, WHO Representative in Turkmenistan.
Over the course of the meeting, experts from international and national teams discussed methodology of the study, shared their findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
The presentation marked a significant milestone in Turkmenistan’s ongoing efforts to modernize its healthcare infrastructure and improve the collection, analysis, and application of healthcare data to better meet the nation's health needs.
