29 August 2022
The United Nations in Turkmenistan welcomed the newly selected group of young SDG Ambassadors in Turkmenistan for 2022-2023-third cohort.
Opening the ceremony, the UN Resident Coordinator, Dmitry Shlapachenko noted: “We continue the initiative of the Young SDG Ambassadors, and we believe that this movement mobilizes and unites not only the youth of Turkmenistan, whose activities contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Turkmenistan, but also become a platform for dialogue with the youth of other countries”.
In the course of the meeting, the newly selected young advocates for the SDGs learned lessons and experiences from the previous cohort who were also awarded with certificates and gifts for their achievements and contribution to implementing the 2030 Agenda in the country.
“The capacity of SDG Ambassadors opens up new horizons in life, positively affects personal development, develops an opportunity to contribute to your society, and most crucially, it creates the chain of well informed, responsible and thoughtful young citizens around the country. As each of the Young SDG Ambassadors is a unique and resourceful youth leader, as all other individuals” noted Guncha Annageldiyeva, SDG Ambassadors, cohort 2.
The participants were also informed on the work of the UN system in Turkmenistan including the strategic areas of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and the mandates and interventions of UNDP, UNODC, UNICEF, WHO, OHCHR and UNHCR.
They will also have meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan to learn what activities the Government of Turkmenistan carries out to realize the 2030 Agenda in the country.
“For two years the SDG Ambassadors team has served me as a model of a community that acts toward one goal despite being so different. That is why I am thankful to our mentors, coordinators, and to the whole SDG Ambassadors team for such a wonderful journey of making this world better”, added Dovran Shammyyev, SDG Ambassador, cohort 2.
This project was initiated by the UN Resident Coordinator and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan from 2018.
