UN Resident Coordinator and SDG Ambassadors Discuss Affordable and Clean Energy from a Youth Perspective

Within the framework of the International scientific and practical conference "Energy prospects, new technologies for the development of hydrocarbon deposits," witnessed an engaging panel discussion on Affordable and clean energy from a youth perspective. The event, attended by UN Resident Coordinator Dmitry Shlapachenko and young SDG Ambassadors, highlighted the critical role of clean and affordable energy in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Distinguished speakers from various fields contributed their expertise to the conference. Khakberdy Khoshdurdyev, Director of the Center of Hydrogen Energy at the International Oil and Gas University, Meghan Demeter, Methane Mitigation Consultant from the UN Environment Programme (online), and Vladimir Valetka, Economist from the UN Resident Coordinator's office in Turkmenistan, shared valuable insights on the issue.

The young participants also offered their views, bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to the discussion:

Ilya Luryev, a student at the International University of Oil and Gas, spoke about a revolutionary technology capable of potentially producing natural gas four times cheaper than traditional methods. This innovation brought him a well-deserved " Best Scientific Work " award in the category "Oil and Gas Technologies" at the OIC Youth Congress, held in Kazan in 2022.

SDG Ambassadors Jepbarberdi Gurbanmuradov, Maral Allaberdyyeva, Shabibi Beshimova, Saida Halmamatova, Yupar Egirjayeva talked about the importance of promoting clean and affordable energy and how it can help achieve the SDGs.

"We must work together if we hope to solve some the biggest challenges surrounding the water- energy nexus. Water and Energy must work in lockstep as what impacts one directly impacts other" emphasized Yupar Egirjayeva, SGD6 Ambassador.

The panel discussion generated dynamic exchanges and innovative ideas, underscoring the critical role of clean and affordable energy in advancing sustainable development. The event further emphasized the imperative need for cross-sectoral cooperation to overcome the existing challenges and realize the potential of clean energy.
