UN Welcomes New Cohort of Young SDG Ambassadors in Turkmenistan

The United Nations Resident Coordinator's office in Turkmenistan recently hosted an introductory meeting with UN Agencies to welcome the new 2024-2025 cohort of Young SDG Ambassadors. This dynamic group has been carefully selected to champion the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the nation.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Dmitry Shlapachenko, the UN Resident Coordinator emphasized the importance of youth involvement in global development efforts, stating:

“2024 promises to be a turning point on the path to sustainable development. At the Future Summit this September, world leaders, experts and civil society representatives will discuss the key challenges and opportunities facing humanity. Your role as SDG Ambassadors will be particularly important in preparing for and participating in this important event.”

The gathering also featured members of the previous cohort, who shared their valuable experiences and insights gained from raising public awareness of the SDGs both nationally and globally.

Reflecting on the journey, Sabrina Guseynova, the SDG 13 Ambassador remarked:

“As the SDG Ambassador, I am deeply committed to addressing the urgent challenges of climate change. This role empowers me to advocate for innovative solutions and inspire collective action to protect our planet. Together, we can build a resilient future, ensuring that the impacts of climate change are mitigated for generations to come.”

The new cohort was also introduced to the work of various UN agencies, including the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNODC, IOM and WHO, setting the stage for a fruitful collaboration in the pursuit of sustainable development goals.
