UN Turkmenistan Hosts Panel Discussion with Women Leaders in Diplomacy

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan – March 5, 2025 – In celebration of International Women’s Day, the United Nations Country office in Turkmenistan organized a panel discussion titled “Modern Diplomacy: Dialogue with Women Leaders” at the UN House in Ashgabat. The event brought together women leaders in diplomacy, representatives of NGOs, women entrepreneurs and youth to highlight the role of women in diplomacy, peacebuilding, and leadership.
Moderated by Mr. Dmitry Shlapachenko, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, the discussion focused on key themes, including career paths in diplomacy, overcoming challenges in leadership, and the role of women in peacebuilding.
The panel featured Mr. Jalpa Ratna, Representative for UNICEF in Turkmenistan; Ms. Beata Peksa, EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan; Ms. Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat, Ambassador of India to Turkmenistan; Ms. Chinar Rustamova, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO; and Ms. Gulshat Yusupova, Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Throughout the discussion, panelists shared their experiences, challenges, and successes, inspiring young women to pursue careers in international relations and diplomacy. The event underscored the importance of gender equality in leadership and highlighted the collective efforts needed to build a more inclusive, sustainable, and peaceful future.
“Women in diplomacy play a crucial role in fostering international cooperation, peace, and sustainable development. This dialogue serves as a platform to inspire the next generation of women leaders,” said Mr. Shlapachenko in his opening remarks.
