Statement by the UN Resident Coordinator Dmitry Shlapachenko on 16 days of activism against gender-based violence
25 November 2025
Dear friends,
Today we kick off the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. This year, the campaign is held under the theme: “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls”.
Digital violence is a real threat: cyberbullying, online threats, sharing intimate images without consent, deepfakes, online stalking, and harassment. These actions cause long-term harm and often lead to violence in real life.
The UN calls on everyone to: • Speak up — support survivors and report cases of violence. • Demand accountability from online platforms and legislation. • Invest in digital safety and education so that every girl and woman feels protected.
Violence is a violation of human rights. A world without violence is our common goal. Join the UNiTE campaign, wear orange, and take steps toward digital safety and equality!
